Games4Sustainability

Dwelling near the ditch is a game focusing on urban waste management and its impact on water control.

Gameplay

Facilitator explains the rules of the game.

Players start with certain amount of waste tokens.

Players make a decision regarding whether to put the bag filled with domestic waste dump into the pile of garbage in the communal ditch (without cost) or take the bag to a distant location ($1 per person).

Players also make decisions regarding the protection against the flood to eliminate the costs of dealing with a disaster.

When the ‘pile’ of waste will reach the third level, the local population is exposed to sanitary risk.

The chance of a flood occurring is determined by the roll of the die.

Community members can collaborate to clean up the ditch, by removing some bags from the pile.

Facilitator presents the results of the game and then starts debriefing.
