Climate Challenge gives the player a basic understanding of the impacts of climate change.
But mostly it helps to raise awareness of different (climate) policy options available for the governments as well as to understand the diverse impacts of implementing them.
It also gives a sense of the challenges faced in the global climate negotiations.

In its first week of launching, the game received an amazing 82,000 unique plays and the totals for the first six weeks were over 500,000 unique plays.

Many players have complained that the mechanism the game uses to measure wealth, or the health of the economy, is faulty and not very realistic. According to the developers, the game was meant to have a different system of measuring the health of the economy, but deadlines prevented the final version from including the more accurate system.
